The most common form of UA is the creation of a fictitious planet. For instance, there are several fantasy roleplays with an earth that has major kingdoms or regions. By customizing the world that your characters interact in, you are, technically speaking, administrating a universe. The law of gravity is now in your hands whenever you create an RP; so feel free to go crazy!
Multi-Thread RP
For those who wish to get really creative with their roleplay's universe, there is always the option of creating multiple IC threads that associate with your roleplay. This is a fun and inventive way to give your characters space for new plots and twists without the fear of messing up the original idea of the story.
Multi-Thread RP'ing is commonly used with PbP DnD roleplaying, but offers other unique advantages to PbP RP.
To create a Multi-Thread RP, simply use similar titles for your threads. Example:
Thread A:My RP - World One
Thread B: My RP - World Two
Detailed UA
Bringing out the details of your universe makes your roleplay unique amongst the rest floating around on the board. There are several ways that you can refine your universe. Let's take a trip through the body shop, shall we?
Races are another common form of UA. By creating races, you open up more possibilities for character templates and you offer your players a variety when it comes to character creation. Providing a bio and history for the races that you create (or modify) also opens more space for better character development.
Factions, alliances, teams, and so on are also a common UA tool. By giving color to the concept of good and evil you allow players a chance to really get creative with their character's stance throughout the story.
Currency, shops, upgrades, and levels may seem like they fit more in the DnD world of roleplaying, but if incorporated correctly, they can turn your roleplay into a dominating publication of ingenious design and complexity! Experiment with these fascinating UA tools and you're sure to find a way that suits your players and your universe.
